3 Fun and Easy Ways to Bond With Your Pony!

We would all love to have a better partnership with our ponies, but what do we actually do to make that happen? Keep reading for three easy-peasy ways to bond with your pony.

One: Take gifts to your pony in the field!

We don't mean fully wrapped boxes with a bow on top! We mean something ‘interesting’ that you find on your walk to the field. Maybe an acorn, a blackberry, a twig with leaves or a beautiful feather. Take your gift to your pony, show it to her, let her sniff it and snuffle it and give her some scratches. Then say goodbye and walk away. Your pony will realise that seeing you doesn't always mean hard work, and often it just means happy moments. You will get to know your pony and what she likes to look at. She might even start to take you to see things she thinks are interesting in return!

Two: Play!

Have you ever let your pony loose and just played? If you haven't, we think you'll love it. Ponies are naturally very curious so a great place to start is by bringing a new toy to your pony. A football would be an easy place to start. If your pony seems nervous, just play by yourself without going closer to her, and just let her watch. Make things interesting by crouching and looking like you are investigating the ball. When she feels more confident she will start to come forward for a look. Then you can take her lead and slowly help her become more used to the ball. In no time at all, you'll be playing together and getting to know each other better.

Three: Go Out for Lunch Together!

If you have a safe place to take your pony grazing in hand, give it a try. Watch which plants your pony is interested in. See if you can spot more of that plant, pick it and hand it to your pony. Your pony will very quickly get used to you being their assistant and they may even start to ask you to grab yummy things that they can't quite reach! This is such a fun way to hang out together and your pony will love it. Just watch out over the next few days because she might just ask you to go again. We call that a win!
